Chasa 32 — Where the Alps Keep Their Oldest Secrets

There are places that hold time differently. Chasa 32 is one of them.

These stone walls were first laid in the 17th century, when Engadine traders and merchants crossed the Alps between Switzerland and Italy, bringing home new ideas, new crafts and a way of building that became entirely their own. The intricate sgraffiti patterns that decorate the houses of Guarda — delicate carvings etched into layered plaster — are their legacy, still telling their stories on every facade centuries later.

In 2017, Chasa 32 was restored with the kind of care and love that old houses deserve. Nothing of its soul was lost. The arched ceilings, the thick stone walls and the quiet solidity of a building that has outlasted centuries remain beautifully intact. Beneath the surface, everything was thoughtfully renewed. Underfloor heating keeps the floors warm on crisp mountain mornings, the kitchen is fully equipped, and high-speed Wi-Fi brings modern comfort without compromising the character of the house.

Guarda itself feels like a village the modern world politely agreed to leave alone. No through traffic. No noise. Just cobblestone lanes, carved wooden doors, colourful flower boxes and breathtaking views across the Engadine Valley.

It is the home of Schellen-Ursli, Switzerland's most beloved children's story, and the starting point for some of the finest hiking in the Alps — from peaceful meadow walks to spectacular high-alpine routes leading towards the majestic Piz Buin (3,312 m).

After a day outdoors, return to 95 m² of warmth and comfort for up to 6 guests. Three inviting double bedrooms with blackout blinds ensure restful Alpine sleep. The spacious open-plan living, dining and kitchen area naturally becomes the heart of the home, while the garden terrace is the perfect place to enjoy the evening sun and mountain air.

Travelling with your dog? You're very welcome. Guarda is just as magical for four-legged guests as it is for people. Crystal-clear streams, traffic-free village lanes and endless forest trails are right on your doorstep. In winter, the roads remain free from salt, and on New Year's Eve, the only sound filling the valley is the gentle ringing of church bells.

The tourist tax and any additional charges depend on the type of apartment and occupancy.

  • BABY-/TODDLER BED - CHF 10 per bed/night (inclusive duvet, pillow, changing mattress, high chair, children's crockery, play mat)
  • DOGS - CHF 25 per pet/night (inclusive orthopaedic dog beds with cosy inserts, towels, and bowls for our dog guests)

Booking Conditions:

  • 30% of the total amount is due on the day of booking 
  • The remaining 70% must be paid no later than 10 days before arrival
  • No refund is possible for later cancellations
  • A 100% refundable deposit is required on the day of arrival: CHF 500

Registration and Guest Card with Included Tourist Tax:

In Guarda (municipality of Scuol), all guests must be registered. The data provided is also used to create personalized guest cards. From the age of 12, all guests pay CHF 5.00 per person per night for the guest card, which includes the tourist tax.

Children aged 6 to 11 also receive a personalized guest card and can enjoy its benefits free of charge. A full list of benefits can be found at https://www.engadin.com/en/guestcard, including free public transport in the region (also valid for dogs). For guests traveling by public transport, booking a ticket to Lavin is sufficient. The journey from there to Guarda is covered by the guest card.

Cancellation Policy:

Guests will receive a full refund if they cancel within 48 hours of booking and at least 14 days before check-in.

Getting around

Guarda is easily accessible by public transport. The train stops on request at Guarda Staziun. From there, the PostBus runs regularly to the Guarda, Cumün stop. After 8:00 PM, an on-demand bus taxi is available with advance booking.

In winter: Slip-resistant footwear is recommended. If arriving by car, winter tires are mandatory; all-wheel drive or snow chains are advisable. Parking is available just outside the village.

Neighborhood

Guarda is an authentic Engadin village perched on a sunny terrace, known for its historic houses, peaceful atmosphere, and unspoiled nature. Hiking trails, bike routes, scenic fire pits, and the Swiss National Park are right on the doorstep. Sports and playground, 200 m from the property.

In winter, top ski resorts await, while nearby Scuol offers relaxation at the Bogn Engiadina wellness spa. Local restaurants and a daily village shop complete the experience – perfect for both relaxation and active holidays.
